Performance Quality Improvement

PQI and Our Strategic Plan-"Vision 2010"

Did you know that the Somerset Home has a Performance Quality Improvement (PQI) program? Started as an outgrowth of the agency strategic plan, the {QI program has been in operation since 1997.

Our PQI Program

The PQI program includes client satisfaction surveys, referral source surveys, and a variety of checks and balances within the agency. One of the best ways to measure success is by studying our client outcomes. The Somerset Home has been a leader in inspiring similar youth-assistance programs to implement "Program Performance Standards." We can now quantify our success, which continues to average in the 85% range. Budget monitoring, incident report reviews and client interviews are also part of this process.

Staff and Volunteer Selection and Training

All prospective employees and volunteers are interviewed by experienced staff who evaluate the individual’s motivation, experience and education. Applicants are required to have a physical examination by a New Jersey licensed physician and criminal background, child abuse registry and motor vehicle background checks. In addition, other background information such as college education is validated with the institution cited on the application. As part of introductory training, applicants meet with various staff members who provide different training modules. As many as ten training sessions on different topics are then followed by the applicant working alongside an experienced staff member to help them integrate what they have learned in the training program with actual practice. This total initial training consists of approximately 50 hours before being permitted to have primary responsibility for supervising the children in our care. Somerset Home's aim is for youth to be provided with exceptional care by staff who are well trained and who will have a stabilizing influence on their lives.
