BRAHMA HOUSE FLOOD - MARCH 29, 2007

DAY ONE

Early in the morning on March 28, 2007 the fire sprinkler system was set off by an emotionally upset youth. A tremendous amount of water damage was caused to the bedrooms, utility systems and administrative offices at Brahma House.

All of the kids were relocated overnight to the Somerset Marriott and then discharged to stable placements by our case management staff by the end of the day.

Brahma House was closed on March 28, 2007 for the first time in 34 years! The repairs will take approximately one month to complete.

Water damage was contained to four bedrooms and four offices and the kitchen. In addition, one of the 100 amp electrical panels is completely damaged and was completely replaced. Nine rooms of carpeting, sheet rock, electrical receptacles and light switches, telephone, were damaged and the internet was down.

These damages occurred one month after a similar sprinkler problem occurred at Passages girl's residence.

Demolition began immediately. All carpets were removed and all administrative offices were set up at our Passages facility (908-526-6686) by the end of the day. The data server, telephone system and all major equipment escaped major water damage.

Demolition of youth counselor office continued into day two.

The carpet, old floor tile and 3/4" plywood floor was removed in three offices and two hallways.

By the end of day two, electricity and phone service was restored. The administrative offices were also put into full operation at Passages.

Day two overnight, four dehumidifiers and 20 fans are dry things out. Sheet rock continues to be removed throughout nine rooms and three hallways.
