The Executive Director's News is published every two weeks, and is specifically written for the employees, board of trustees and friends of the Somerset Home.

This issue and past issues are available on our web site at http://www.somersethome.org/main/pages/employee_newsletter.htm.

Pathways on Youtube

We submitted a grant application to Sun Life last week for Pathways. Part of the submission was a creative video that was completely created by our young people. Check out the video and keep your fingers crossed for our $50,000 grant and one $5,000 scholarship!

Planning Retreat

Every year, on a Sunday in March senior staff and the board of trustees take a full day to review our agency statistics, feedback from constituents and environmental trends in order to prepare revisions to our annual and five-year strategic plan.

Our current five year strategic plan is coming to an end this year. Vision 2015 (our next five-year plan) will be completed in the Fall and will include a new set of exciting challenges related to expanding and improving our services for young people.

And the Award for Best Annual Report Goes to....

Somerset Home’s 2008 annual report has won 2 awards from the NJ chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). This is the second year in a row the report has won in the categories of Publications and Writing. Last year’s report also won a NJ Art Directors Club award for design. Besides being a nice feather in our cap, it means our message about the many ways our programs and services meet the needs of abused and neglected teens is being understood. And the increased understanding is the first step toward increased support.

Good as New!

It is hard to believe that just a few weeks ago we were sure that this van would be considered a total loss by our insurance company. We are grateful to our friends at Ideal Auto Body who worked hard to get us back on the road in record time. We picked up the van yesterday and it does really seem to be as good as new!

Be careful out there everyone!

As always, thank you all for your continued hard work on behalf of our youth.

Sincerely,
