The Executive Director's News is published every two weeks, and is specifically written for the employees, board of trustees and friends of the Somerset Home.
This issue and past issues are available on our web site at http://www.somersethome.org/main/pages/employee_newsletter.htm.
Just in time for the August sunshine, the solar array at Brahma House is undergoing fine tuning and we expect to go on the grid within a week. This $95,000 project has been financed by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
Automobile Donation Program
Somerset Home has created an automobile donation program. Please pass the news along to anyone who you may know who is seeking to donate an automobile, boat or RV to a charity. This is a nationwide program so a car can be picked up in Seattle or Miami. Donated cars are sold at auction and Somerset Home gets 70% of the selling price. The donor gets a tax letter for the full amount of the selling price.
Somerset Home has partnered with Street Law, a Washington, DC based non-profit organization and Merck to offer a new program through our Pathways program. The Youth in Transition curriculum will become part of a new Merck volunteer program that will be delivered to our youth similar to the Affinity Federal Credit Union Financial Literacy program.
The Youth in Transition program will focus on teaching youth their legal rights including special rights as former foster care/ substitute care youth. We will be working closely with Alicia Guichard from the Rutgers Law School in Newark to implement the Youth in Transition program and look forward to the workshop series rolling out this Fall.
As always, thank you all for your continued hard work on behalf of our youth.
Sincerely,
