Graduation and Volunteer Celebration
Volunteers received flower pots decorated by Brahma House residents
It was hot and sunny and we had high hopes for the weather holding for just another two hours and then the skies opened up and we had a heavy downpour an hour before the picnic. And then just as suddenly, the sun came out and a gentle breeze dried everything off in time for our celebration!
Volunteers were recognized for their contributions including birthday buddies, tutors and mentors. Members of the board of trustees were also recognized for their contributions to agency management. We are grateful for the contributions of all of our volunteers and could not manage without their everyday support.
Eight of our TLP residents received $500 scholarships from the Somerset Home Endowment. We thank all of those donors whose generous contributions have made these scholarships possible. The scholarship fund was significantly boosted this year by a major financial contribution from the Archie Chiles Memorial Fund. Representatives of the Archie Chiles Fund were in attendance and their board chair wrote a very nice letter in support of our efforts.
We congratulate all of our graduates and wish them good luck with their future plans. We are very proud of all of you!
Pathways Financial Literacy Graduation
This year it was the boys who participated and graduated from the Affinity Federal Credit Union/Pathways Financial Literacy program. Five of our young people learned about all facets of personal finance and have already begun putting these skills to work.
Happy Graduation Indeed!
This year was also an important graduation year for my family. My son Jeffrey, graduated from Hillsborough High School and will be attending Raritan Valley Community College in the Fall.
My Place Renovations Completed!
It has been more than four months but we are finally finished with our renovations at the My Place TLP. The young men living here really appreciate the new space. My Place has a new half bath, renovated full bath, new recreation/education room, expanded food pantry, new kitchen refrigerator, new siding, new windows, new lighting, new laundry facilities and many other facility improvements. Guests at our volunteer/graduation party had an opportunity to tour My Place and see these facility improvements up close.
As always, thank you all for your continued hard work on behalf of our youth.
Sincerely,
