The Executive Director's News is published every two weeks, specifically for the employees of the Somerset Home. This issue and past issues are available on our web site at http://www.somersethome.org/main/pages/employee_newsletter.htm.
Graduates!
I would like to congratulate all of our graduates. We all know how hard they all worked to achieve this important milestone.
Whitney House Air Conditioning
I have heard the following question from many staff (and kids) who have worked at Whitney House over the past few weeks: What's up with the air conditioner?
After a thorough analysis, I was informed on Friday that the entire air conditioning system (condenser and a-coil) needs to be replaced. If that wasn't bad enough we found the attic fan motor had seized which resulted in temperatures in the attic rising up to 200 degrees! That mass of warm air in the attic didn't help matters.
Fortunately we had a break in the extremely hot weather. The attic fan has been repaired and the new air conditioning system should be installed by the end of this week.
Job Description Review
At least once each year all of the Somerset Home job descriptions are completely reviewed and revised. During the next two weeks we will be looking at each job description and making changes in an effort to more articulately communicate expectations and update baseline qualifications set forth by licensing and accreditation requirements.
Brahma House Kitchen Fire Suppression System Upgrade
We have just signed a contract for an upgrade of the fire suppression system in the kitchen at Brahma House. The old system will be replaced with a foam fire suppression system in early July. For those of you who are familiar with the equipment at Passages, it will be the same type as we have in the kitchens there. The complete job should result in minimal disruption. We expect the kitchen to be closed for only one day.
As always, thank you all for your continued hard work on behalf of our youth.
Sincerely,
