School's Out!

The end of the school year was celebrated on Tuesday, June 14, 2005 with an agency celebration at Duke Island Park. Marshall Christie, Residential Services Coordinator, manned the grill and Elizabeth Remeika, Recreation Coordinator, organized numerous fun activities for Somerset Home staff and youth attending the annual school year end picnic.

Nicole Franco, TLP Case Manager, takes a break in between coordinating dozens of school year end activities.

Darice Carter, a Passages transitional living program (TLP) resident smiled as she spoke about attending college in the fall and working to earn money for college this summer. Darice is one of many TLP youth who will be attending college in the fall.

My Place II

My Place II is envisioned to be a five bed transitional living group home for youth ages 18-21. The new program will be similar to My Place I but with one big difference, it will be for girls. We look forward to purchasing a property in the Fall and becoming operational in early 2006.

Somerset Home Endowment

Did you know the Somerset Home has an endowment? Somerset Home donors who designate contributions as "in honor of" or "in memory of" a loved one have been deposited into a special account where only the interest can be spent on projects.

This year for the first time, we are contemplating making the first round of financial assistance awards from this fund. While the final details have not yet been worked out, there is broad consensus that these funds be used to assist youth in their pursuit of education.

For more information about our endowment please contact Tracey Costanzo. We are interested in growing this fund over the coming year so that next year our financial assistance awards will be even bigger! Please encourage your friends or relatives who may be so inclined to consider a gift to the Somerset Home Endowment.

As always, thank you all for your continued hard work on behalf of our youth.

Sincerely,
